Chapel of Our Lady of Piety
Founded in 1613 by Martim Gonçalves da Câmara, who is buried here, it has an altarpiece that was decorated between 1707 and 1716 by the Congregation of Our Lady of Piety.
The chapel has side walls with the lower third covered in marble inlays and the remaining surface in gilded woodcarving punctuated by “putti”. The altarpiece is divided by a niche with a sculpture of the “Calvary”, surrounded by a crown of angels on a background in low-relief in painted stucco, allusive to the walls of Jerusalem, and a “Pietà” in upholstered and polychromed wood, from the 17th century, at the foot of the cross.
