Mainly between the 15th and 18th centuries, the Pax fulfilled the function of bringing the "sign of peace" to the faithful at the time of communion for the sick and dying.
This specimen shows a representation of the Risen Christ amidst clouds, with the right hand in an attitude of blessing, while the other holds the cross-staff with the standard. On the head, a semi-circular halo is clearly visible. This figuration is inserted in an architectonic type frame defined by two pilasters, with figures of children supporting the curved entablature, surmounted by angels and cherubs and a Greek cross in the centre. In the tympanum a large rosette stands out, partially hidden by a tablet with the inscription "PAX VOBIS" ("peace be with you").
