Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti and Paesaggio per le province di Frosinone, Latina and Rieti in colaboration with Parco archeologico del Colosseo, Embassy of Italy in Lisbon, Instituto Italiano de Cultura de Lisboa, Museu de São Roque da Santa Casa da Misericórdia de LisboaExhibition organised on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the Church of Our Lady of Loreto in Lisbon, founded in 1518 by Italian merchants.
It presents some artistic-artisanal creations designed to dress the wooden images present on the altars of various Italian churches. These vestments change according to the liturgical calendar and take on an even richer and more magnificent appearance on certain dates and festivities, when the images are carried in procession through the streets of the villages. In fact, entire communities gather around these images, from the delicate moment they are put on, demonstrating the vitality to the present day of an artistic, religious and anthropological phenomenon which roots go back several centuries.
