PIN - Portuguese Contemporary Jewellery Association in collaboration with the Museum of São Roque - Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Lisbon and MUDE – Design and Fashion MuseumSUOR FRIO, title of the 1st International Biennale of Contemporary Jewellery, Lisbon, invites to reflect on BODY, FEAR and PROTECTION through exhibition projects, colloquiums, meetings and masterclasses.
The pandemic situation that marked the years 2020-2021 and that forced us to rethink our modus operandi, the fear and uncertainty that settled in, determined the election of the theme as a remarkable aspect in the history of jewellery – physical and spiritual protection – and to debate its meaning in the 21st century.
In its core exhibition, works of jewellery, but also performance, sculpture, photography and film by national and foreign artists were placed in dialogue with the space and works of the Church and Museum of São Roque. More than establishing bridges between past and present, or the sacred and the profane, this partnership with the Museum of São Roque allowed other frameworks to be tested, opening new perspectives of approach to the objects exhibited, inviting the community to rehearse new readings of the museological discourse and to reflect on relevant aspects of everyday society.
